BOOK MAKING WORKSHOP with CHINA AROH

STAIRS ACADEMY held a free community event in Sunset Park Brooklyn, which consisted of a Bilingual Book Reading (Spanish/English), a Book Making Workshop and celebration of the completion of the STAIRS ACADEMY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM.

This hands on activity combined with the bilingual book reading, helps make connections between literacy, culture and the arts. It also demonstrates that the arts help build community and create a bridge between students of different cultures and languages. “

Last December, STAIRS ACADEMY held a free community event in Sunset Park Brooklyn, which consisted of a Bilingual Book Reading (Spanish/English), a Book Making Workshop and celebration of the completion of the STAIRS ACADEMY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM.  Artist, designer and educator China Aroh, founder of It’s Sew Fun!(TM) extended day sewing and design program in NYC, leads a book making workshop.

With some help from parents and staff, the children created books of their own design and decoration, using materials donated by STAIRS ACADEMY and Materials for the Arts.

This hands on activity combined with the bilingual book reading, helps make connections between literacy, culture and the arts. It also demonstrates that the arts help build community and create a bridge between students of different cultures and languages.
