Since working as part of the team at Stairs Academy, I have increased my skills in Web development and learned new skills, that I will be using in my career. I’m glad to have had the opportunity to collaborate and express ideas with different individuals doing the internship with me.
PATRICK RYSZKIEWICZ
The Internship at Stairs Academy was truly a fulfilling experience. My fellow interns and I worked to progress the school and had a fun time doing it!. Being a Sunset Park native, I want the children to have the same joyful school experience I had when growing up. The fact many of the schools are overcrowded and some will have to travel to different neighborhoods to go to school is quite upsetting. Every child deserves a quality education.
FOSTER BROWN JR.
I came to this internship knowing very little about the inner workings of WordPress. However, I had knowledge about the inner workings of the web and had programmed pages without all of the abstraction WordPress had to offer. Because of this, I was able to fix many issues that couldn’t have been fixed solely in WordPress. This made me realized that knowledge in any topic will be of use somewhere.

I have enjoyed my time in the STAIRS ACADEMY Internship Program, under Graeme’s leadership. He has given me direction and many skills that I can apply in my future career. This is a great beginning. I feel STAIRS ACADEMY will become one of the best institutes in New York City, always remembered by the people of the neighborhood. I would love to work for the school in the future.

MOHAMMAD DANYAL
I was always interested in web and mobile app development. Thanks to Graeme at Stairs Academy, I was able to apply my knowledge and get hands-on experience working on both the Stairs Academy website and the Ace Club App project. Future interns will be able to improve on the Ace Club app that I started, using the vision and resources I have left for them. I'm glad that I got to work and collaborate with a great team and individuals with different backgrounds, learning a lot about the process of starting a charter school.

I really enjoyed working with my teammates collaboratively to create a beautiful and simple website for STAIRSACADEMY. By the completion of the internship, I learned to work in a team . I learned WordPress, and how easily companies can get their website up and running. With a very friendly interface and many tools to help along the way.

This experience was exactly what I needed to use my knowledge in real-word and show all the hard work that I have done during studying in college. Also, I had an opportunity to work with other teammates which is a key skill in any field of computer science. Finally, working with Graeme was my pleasure as he is an excellent mentor with a very educated background. Designing and building the Stairs Academy Website with him was an honor for me. I am sure this internship will be a great start for my career in web and software engineering.

As an IT assistant in Stairs Academy, I prepared laptops and iPads for students to use, installed and upgraded the OS on Mac Airs, iPads, Chromebooks and Non-Apple Laptops. While working in the public school Arts & Letters 305 United in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, I learned how to fix some hardware and I finally became more comfortable with Chromebook and macOS operating systems. While doing my internship, I connected the staff's printers and computers to the DOE network and was able to help families with their device issues remotely, during the pandemic.
KATY LEI
As a Stairs Academy Intern, my role was HR, Administration and Digital Marketing. I managed social media and composed copy for the Stairs Academy Newsletter. I also coordinated schedules and meetings of the other Interns and practiced communicating with Interns and supervisors as Human REsources manager. Due to the educational aspect of the work, I was moved to go more into education and am now on a career path to be a school teacher. Working at an educational nonprofit helped prepare me for a future role in education that I had not considered until working at Stairs Academy.
VINCENT XIE
At Stairs Academy I had a chance to begin the design of a new website for a Fashion Design and Sewing after-school program called It's Sew Fun! As a web developer, I enjoyed working on a project that will be published and in use and serves a good purpose of improving education. Since I wanted to do more and got a lot out of the program, I decided to do another Semester and was able to do a second Internship with the nonprofit. Graeme was flexible in scheduling of our hours and we were able to select the projects and team members we would work with.
