STAIRS ACADEMY: BOOK MAKING WORKSHOP with CHINA AROH

“STAIRS ACADEMY held a free community event in Sunset Park Brooklyn, which consisted of a Bilingual Book Reading (Spanish/English), a Book Making Workshop and celebration of the completion of the STAIRS ACADEMY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM. This hands on activity combined with the bilingual book reading, helps make connections between literacy, culture and the arts. It also demonstrates that the arts help build community and create a bridge between students of different cultures and languages. “

What is STAIRS ACADEMY’s “Bold Idea”?

In 2019, STAIRS ACADEMY’s Educational Nonprofit was invited by the NYCDOE to participate in the Imagine NYC Schools initiative, in the hopes of creating a new innovative public school.

In March 2020 the program was cut short by the COVID-19 Pandemic, when NYC’s priorities shifted from new school creation to surviving and maintaining existing schools which were in crisis. One of the things asked of us was “What is your ‘Bold Idea’?” meaning, what new ideas are you bringing to the table, that we should create a new public school based on your vision? The following, written in 2019, was out answer.

KEITH MIDDLETON TALKS INTERNAL RHYTHM

“Long-time STOMP cast member, actor, producer, musician and spoken word artist Keith “WildChild” Middleton, who grew up in Community School District 15 and attended neighborhood public schools, breaks down how the Arts tap into a universal “rhythm” inside all of us, that transcends what language you speak and why he supports the creation of STAIRS ACADEMY, to bring back a connection to that rhythm.”
